Kirkleatham Hall School

"Unlocking Potential"

Derek Enderby

Hi my name is Derek Enderby,.

I have been a governor at Kirkleatham for a long time (   years).

I was born and went to school in Middlesbrough at Linthorpe Junior School then Stainsby Boys Secondary School, Middlesbrough.

I stayed on at school for an extra year because I couldn’t get a job, but we didn’t have a 6th form or FE .There was only 5 of us but we all studied for more GCE exams.

My first job after school was working on the docks at Tees Dock, where I had a number of jobs over a period of 12 years. After that 3years at a tyre garage and 4years as a sales rep for a storage company I managed to get a job in Cleveland Social Services.

I then spent 29 years in Social services all working with adults with a learning disability. My first role was working in a special needs unit ( as it was called then.)  I then progressed in management roles which included managing Upsall Hall Rural Centre  for nearly ten years and up to my retirement 7 years ago managing Learning Disability day services in Redcar & Cleveland.

I live in Marton and married to Babs with a son and daughter.

Simon is a civil engineer and director for an inspection company and lives with his wife Sam a community nurse in Crewe, with their son Zach.

Daughter Sam lives on a farm on the outskirts of Leeds with farmer/builder Phil and she has a hair and beauty salon on the farm. They have two children Will and Hollie.
