Lower and Upper School Curriculum Pathways
Students in Primary and Secondary follow either a formal, semi-formal or informal curriculum.
Formal Curriculum
Students in the formal curriculum have bespoke English and Maths lessons alongside topic work and aspects of the semi-formal curriculum. (please see below)
Semi-Formal Curriculum
Students following a semi-formal curriculum have opportunity to develop their English and Maths through practical, real-life situations. The topics they cover within the semi-formal curriculum are my independence, which comprises of my cooking, my travel, my shopping and my dressing. They also cover my creativity, comprising of my dance, my drama, my music and my art and the world about me with my communication underpinning all of this study.
Informal Curriculum
Students within the informal curriculum have a broad range of multi-sensory experiences, therapeutic opportunities with the development of communication at the heart of their curriculum.
Individualised Curriculums
A number of students follow highly bespoke individual curriculum based on their unique abilities and needs. They follow mainly a lower semi-formal curriculum which includes Maths and English, PSHE, Use of language and joint attention skills, Creativity, RE, Independence and Life skills. There is also a strong focus on each learner’s ability to regulate emotionally which includes joint and individual regulation and ability to cope with changes and transitions.
The impact of the curriculum is reflected in having happy, resilient and confident students transitioning to the next stage of their learning and preparing for adulthood.
