Forest School

At KHS we are extremely proud of our Forest School area in the heart of the local woods. This allows us to provide unique, new and exciting opportunities for our pupils to develop themselves in a wonderful environment. We have a dedicated Forest School Leader Level 5 Teaching Assistant who plans and delivers exciting activities for our pupils while maintaining true to the Forest School ethos and principals. We aim to help pupils develop a love and respect of nature sparking passion for the forest that will hopefully serve them well throughout their lives. Due to the diverse nature of our pupils, we have developed the Forest School Progression Document that values both character and skills development, ensuring all of our learners can find their own success within Forest School.

Playing and Learning Outdoors

Our outdoor play provision is a key part of our pupils learning journey at KHS. We have two dedicated spaces that offer uniquely different play and learning opportunities to meet the needs of our pupils. Our Sensory Yard provides opportunities for learners to engage in a range daily changing sensory experiences such as messy art, bubbles and water play among others led by our sensory yard play leader. We also have constant play opportunities to explore such as our scooters, movement boards, sand pits, ball activities tyre and obstacle course to name just a few.

Our social yard has opportunities for a range of social interactions. Here pupils can engage in play led activities that change each day such as laser tag, remote control cars, archery and axe throwing, dance mats, karaoke machines and more. We have constant play opportunities such as football on the field, basketball in the mugga, den building, bikes and scooters as well as other wonderful opportunities.

We are always looking to expand and grow our outdoor play provision to ensure our pupils are given the best opportunities to develop a range of skills and find new things they never knew they could do!
