Kirkleatham Hall School

"Unlocking Potential"

Glynis Calvert

My name is Glynis Calvert and I started working with school as a Parent

I was born in Berwick Upon Tweed. I moved into the area and attended Stanghow Primary School and then Warsett School.

When I left school I worked in Hintons/ Presto and Morrisons, rising to Warehouse Supervisor. I think that this is because I am a well organised person!

I decided to become a Governor in school when my boys started Kirkleatham Hall School. Both Gary and Daniel attended Kirkleatham until they were 19 years old. School provided them with “The best days of their lives”.

They are both young adults now, and I find myself an employer of 4 people, as well as a carer for my family. I have lots of experience of working with services to meet the needs of people with disabilities, and have seen many, many changes in provision.

I am passionate about the person being at the centre of what is provided. I am committed to making a difference and making sure that whatever we do DOES make a difference for our children.

I have been involved with the Grenfell Club for 25 years now and was a founding member of Carers Together.
