"Unlocking Potential"

A New Sensory Room is Coming Soon

Through connections made by our fundraising KHS Friends group, the Teesside Family Foundation have pledged £30,000 for a much-needed new sensory room for the school.

With help from local tradespeople, students will see their learning experience completely transformed by the new facility.  The room is a very important part of our school. A lot of our learners have sensory needs and an increasing number of children have more than one need.

The new sensory room will allow them to access aspects of their learning in a way that they can’t without it. They might be able to control a switch which will give them environmental control and turn the room blue or green. It will allow them to make choices.

The new sensory environment will provide a high level of technology so that the room can be immersive. It will incorporate bubble tubes, fibre optic lights, projectors, a sound system, light panels and tactile surfaces. For example, you could have a projector showing life under the sea or up in space. A number of our children are unable to imagine opportunities beyond their own experiences, but in this way, we can take them to explore new environments.”

Once again we would like to thank the Teesside Family Foundation trustees, Michael Poole, Tony Wedlake, Jill Clayton, Bradley Johnson and Neal Bullock
