  • RSPB Big School’s Birdwatch

Mon 16 Mar 2015 Kevin Robson

Class 4 and 5 love to watch the many birds that visit the area outside their classrooms. To encourage different types of birds they fill the bird feeders with different types of bird food.

Each year the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) invite schools to take part in a survey recording how many birds they see on a certain day. They then count up the results and reveal which bird tops the charts. Class 4 have taken part in the survey for the past 6 years.

This year Class 4 and 5 counted the birds for half an hour on Friday 6th February. The most popular birds outside Class 4 were the Blue Tit and making several visits was the Nuthatch. We will have to wait to find out the national results.

  • Volleyball Festival

Tue 03 Mar 2015 Kevin Robson
In February, a group of students from Kirkleatham Hall School participated in a Volleyball festival held at Prior Pursglove College. The students practiced their skills on the morning by taking part in drills which focused on the volley, the dig and how to serve properly. They then put their skills into a match situation. All the students that took part performed brilliantly on the day with a combination of hard work and skilful play but Sam Jones and William Smith did so well that they have been selected to represent Redcar at the School games, which is taking place in the Summer.  A big thank you goes to Pam Dodds (Redcar and Cleveland Sports Partnership) for organising the event and providing such an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
